I think we've all heard about the British school teacher located in Sudan who was recently jailed for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Muhammad." Well, it now appears many hardliners are calling for her either to be shot to death or put to death by some other civilized method. I think it's acceptable to say that anyone backing the death penalty for this teacher probably shouldn't be on this earth themselves. As a brief aside, we here in Illinois have a Chicago Bear named Muhsin Muhammad who plays in the National Football League (NFL). No word yet on what his punishment might be.

Grossman supporters forgot 3 things: situational differences, the only important numbers, and the level of talent.

Firstly, Grossman would be my personal favorite in any combines or pass-punt-kick challenges (note: the pink indicates that these are girl sports). When there's no pressure, he's among the best I've ever seen. Put him into a real game, and he cannot deal with the pressure. He has no poise, and at this point in his career he will never get any because he should have developed it by now. You can see the pressure effects even today by looking at his form: he either short-steps or side-steps in his passing follow-through whenever the slightest pressure reaches the pocket. He cannot perform under pressure and did not do so today.

Secondly, the only important numbers are POINTS FOR, POINTS AGAINST, and WINS. Grossman is a born loser when it comes to the NFL and is worse than Joey Harrington at this point, Harrington having previously been the worst person to ever where a quarterback uni in the NFL. Even if Grossman performed well, the team does not WIN under him as seen today. Look at the records under Griese and under Orton. He's a losing element.

Thirdly, Griese has more talent in his left pinky than Grossman had in his whole body today. Griese came from a football family, went through a winning college program, and won with Denver in the pros. He's seen everything and derived more talent from this experience. Grossman lacks Griese's talent even when Griese is injured.

Bottom line: as soon as humanly possible, I say to put Griese back where he belongs as #1 and demote Grossman to the team's bus-washer.

Wow, I didn't think I could be in a fouler and more disappointed mood than I was immediately after the Bears game, after I had some idiot at the bar chanting for Kyle Orton...and then I read CubbyBearSwerski's post.

"Griese came from a football family"??? That means WHAT, exactly? That we should stick with a guy who's on his fourth team--yes, FOURTH TEAM--after he single-handedly loses both games against the perennially craptastic Lions? Have you watched any of the games, or just Griese's 97-yard gamewinning drive against the Eagles? Griese's dad is in the Hall of Fame; Brian Griese won't even be in any of his multiple teams' individual Rings of Honor. So I couldn't care less what kind of a family he came from, 'cuz that doesn't mean SQUAT on Sundays.

"Griese...won with Denver in the pros." Uhhh...are you talking about preseason? Or regular season? I'm not 100% sure, but I don't even think Brian Griese has won a playoff game. I could try and look that up to confirm, but I'm too lazy right now, and even if he did win a playoff game somewhere, he's obviously never won two...which is what Rex Grossman did last year. Oh wait, that was before you started watching the Bears, since you obviously started following them with the aforementioned 97-yard gamewinning drive against the Eagles.

Also, Harrington, Grossman, Griese, Montana, Staubach, "Slingin'" Sammy Baugh...none of these guys, or anyone for that matter, could ever "where" a quarterback uniform. They can "wear" one, but they can't "where" one. Do you understand the difference? I think I learned about homophones in 2nd or 3rd grade. Griese may have "...went through a winning college program," but you obviously did not go through a winning elementary school program.

Grossman did not give up 337 yards passing today. Grossman did not make D.J. Hackett look like the hottest fantasy football pickup prospect come Monday morning. Grossman did not give up 5 yards a carry to the likes of Maurice "Don't call me Mercury" Morris. Grossman did not bench Cedric Benson in the second quarter. Grossman did not commit dumb penalties like hitting a punt returner well after he had gone out-of-bounds. All of those things were more of a reason why the Bears lost the game than anything--including, yes, the lost fumble--that Rex Grossman did.

So good luck trumpeting the "benefits" of starting Brian Griese in future posts. Anyone who's watched the Bears this day, and this season, and for the past 20 years knows that Rex Grossman is the most talented QB we have seen 'round these parts in quite some time, and Brian Griese is a good backup QB and will never have the capability to lead this Bears team anywhere. Do me a favor and tell Brian Griese "you suck" for me at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, since you're obviously related to him.

Being Halloween today, we thought a post about the most revolting and flagrantly offensive candy to ever terrorize unsuspecting and innocent children everywhere might be in order. That's right: those things in the orange and black wrappers.

What the HELL are they?

Officially, they're Necco's Peanut Butter & Molasses Kisses. Unofficially, they are the worst substance(s) ever to be passed off as candy during Halloween. Scientists are still unsure of their exact chemical components and might be nonplussed for eons. All we know currently is that if a few of these crap bombs target their way into your carrying device, you'll be wishing and hoping for raisins, that is if you haven't already ripped off your costume, jumped in bed, questioned what life really means, and cried yourself to sleep.

What possesses normally sane people to buy them?

This is a trick question. Nobody with working gray matter in their brain would knowingly devastate a child like this. Only insane people buy these wretched things. Even animals lower on the food chain have instinctively learned to steer clear of these things.

Were they left here by some distant alien species?

If aliens were ever here, then they were–and remain–a lot smarter than us human beings. They didn't do this to us. This was a man-made catastrophe and only shows we have a long way to go. These things are a blot on our existence and must be eradicated in order for us to even become a type I civilization.

Shouldn't there be a warning or sign placed on the door of abodes handing these out, so a detour can be made?

Good question. Yes. Failing to give adequate warning should result in a minimum sentence of 3 years in the hole imposed to anyone still handing these crappers out. No time off for good behavior, either.

Can these be considered torture?

We don't see any information specifically mentioning these little nuggets of terrible in the Geneva Conventions, but that doesn't mean they aren't being clandestinely used by governments across the globe to gather information when needed.

Would there ever be a situation where one would be correct to eat one of these?

Really, the only acceptable reason to eat one of these crap bombs would be in order to bed Lucy Pinder or Kelly Brook (don't ask how this scenario would come to fruition, it's way too complex). Or a distance second might be if you have no soul, which is debatable. In no other arrangement would eating or even opening the wrapper be an acceptable outcome, ever.

If God is all-knowing, all-good, and all-powerful, why do they exist?

That is a theological and/or existentialist notion you will have to come to grips with yourself. Some would say the plenitude principle is at work here, which states that anything that can happen eventually will happen. We just feel bad that our particular slice of space-time had to incur such an outright assault on all that we hold to be good and true.

Will it ever end?

Not while you continue to intake oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide; in other words, not in your or anyone's lifetime. Even Death may not be an escape from these orange-and-black bastards, as their ubiquitous nature almost compels them to exist in such a way as to pepper whatever afterlife you may find yourself in. We don't think they are confined by what may be our 11 dimensional reality.

I gotta admit: I forgot what they taste like, and after reading their horrendous attributes, curiosity overwhelmed me and I scarfed a few. Am I without hope?

Although we can certainly understand the power and sway that curiosity holds over us mere mortals–curiosity is the 3rd-most powerful force on this planet, behind only the 18 year-old male libido and Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson–we cannot under any circumstance excuse the ludicrous act that is consuming these hell-nuggets. So long story short, yes, you are without hope, sans hope, hope left you by–never to return. You should not only be embarrassed for yourself (which should go without saying), but also for your extended family and for all those who came before you and who will come after you.

Richard Feynman was a remarkable human being, and both a devoted, loving father and a brilliant theoretical physicist. The way in which he objectively and honestly looked at and attacked problems of any kind, and the thought provoking insights he gave to young and old, might never be duplicated. Rarely has someone so mind-numbingly bright been able to relate to others in such a clear and humble manner. If you want to read a terrific non-scientific laden book, go pick up Perfectly Reasonable Deviations from the Beaten Track: The Letters of Richard P. Feynman as earnestly as you can.

Man, this is good stuff. Luther soaks in a few introductory licks of the sultry guitar, quietly but assuredly walks on stage, and emits sounds that strike the crowd's solar plexus with devastating effect.

I attempted this little number once at a karaoke joint. It went badly. I would say 20 percent of the reason is due to a severe misunderstanding of what constitutes actual singing, but I would like to think the other 80 percent is because my shirt lacked the pièce de résistance seen here. And yes, I am referring to the plunging neckline.

September 24, 2007: a date that will live in anthropic lore. The Chemical Brothers came to the Riviera Theatre in Chicago and turned it on end.

It is exceedingly difficult to illuminate the exact event as it transpired as to do so would be analogous to describing the majesty of heaven in a few whimsical thoughts. A hundred poets writing for a thousand years couldn't capture the transcendent beauty that was on display for two hours that evening.

It was a truly remarkable, profound, and astonishing experience. It was a historic, sonic epoch that can only be ultimately understood by those who were fortunate enough to attend. The music and light interplay was mesmerizing, the crowd was absolutely bonkers, and Tom and Ed were searing. They deserve nothing short of unremitting approbation for their efforts.

The aural bliss never ceded. We overheard several concert goers equating it to a 48 hour orgasm, but without the obligatory trip to Santa Barbara.

It's beyond troubling more people in this world do not have the opportunity to appreciate such acute moments of delight like all those who were present. Below you'll find a clip from the show. The transition into Hey Boy Hey Girl occurs at 5:05 and is extraordinary. The sound leaves much to be desired, but it is still well worth a watch.

This poor kid is hearing the death rattle while his apparent guardian couldn't seem more delighted. Highlights to definitely look out for here would be: 1) At 10 seconds in, this ride must possess the kick of an irascible mule, because the podgy one is already having trouble staying put and it is painfully obvious this ride will get worse for him before it gets better; 2) And at already just 15 seconds in, the podgy one's fortune has indeed taken a terrible turn for the worse (he has managed to almost strangle himself in the safety belts and each successive plea to stop the ride is met by an unholy union of eerie clown music and maniacal, borderline homicidal laughter); and 3) From 30 seconds on, the podgy one appears to be held in the ride solely by his neck much to the indulgence and amusement of his guardian and appears to admit defeat as the final waves of cachinnation crest and break. Good times, unless you're the podgy one.

While many of us sentient earthlings believe Jupiter is a neighborly cosmic behemoth that helps to protect us carbon-based life forms from mass extinction–due to the conception that its massive size should be great enough to deflect any comets or asteroids with Earth's name on them–recent research indicates otherwise, and that in fact, it causes and will continue to cause just as much space detritus to come toward us, as it does away from us. Thanks Jupiter. Sure, the linguistically adept get to utter to your sweet adjectival form, Jovian, when conversing occasionally, but apart from that, you are pretty much a good-for-nothing super gas Gigant. Go find another solar system to "protect."

In a related story, the rings around Uranus are now positioned "edge-on" to Earth. It's relatively rare. Relatively rare ring setup we have around Uranus folks. Unless you have Hubble Space Telescope's mirror setup for eyeballs, you won't be able to see this. Seriously. Everyone loses here: you and Uranus.

Leave poor Rex Grossman alone

To everyone who doesn't think Rex Grossman will win the Super Bowl for the Chicago Bears this year:

You're dumb.

It's not only your low intelligence quotient I abhor, it's also your inability to distinguish yourself among the crowd of dimwitted idiotas who think that merely echoing the deafening calls for Grossman's benching is expressing evidence of critical thinking skills.

It doesn't.

Maybe these hate-mongers think it's cool to utter inane drivel like, "Grossman sucks. He's terrible. He's garbage." Repeating various offshoots of these 3 simply inaccurate statements is apparently in vogue right now in the Land of Lincoln, not to mention across the entire country. I, for one, am pretty goddamned sick of it, if for no other reason than it will be these same banal bastards who will claim they "knew all along" that Rex could do it when he slips on his Super Bowl champion's ring next year.

So the next time one of you Rex-rippers tries to display some modicum of football knowledge by commenting on any of the myriad of mistakes Rex either has made or will make in the future...don't. I don't want to hear you remarking that he can't telegraph passes like the interception he threw in Saturday night's preseason game that got run back for a touchdown. You know why? EVERY QUARTERBACK DOES THAT AT SOME POINT. Just ask Peyton Manning: I'm sure everyone's forgotten this, but the Super Bowl XLI MVP telegraphed a pass in the AFC Championship Game that was intercepted and run back for a touchdown, giving the Patriots a sizable lead at that point in the game. And he did that in the game that determines who goes to the SUPER BOWL; Rex committed this "grievous" mistake in a meaningless preseason game that the Bears were already winning 24-7. My point is that it happens to everyone, and when it happens to Rex Grossman, don't blow it out of proportion simply because you heard some meatheads crying over it on some crowded downtown bus that morning.

At least he hasn't participated in dogfights or anything like that.

Several things to keep an eye out for in this video: 1) At 1:27, the band leader refuses to play the keyboard and proceeds to rest his arms on his hips and play a little game of hip-swivel, and who can blame the guy, with hips like those, it would be a sin not to; 2) The guitarist's commanding solo at 2:41 is a nice touch, it appears he might be straddling the cameraman, but that's what they did back then; and 3) Immediately following the straddling incident, the band leader decides to take his show on the road and have an old-fashioned dance off with his harem (it's 1 vs. 3, but we think he holds his own here) as evidenced by the warm welcome/hair-rub he receives afterward. All in all just a glorious piece of history.

This is too funny. Pamela Bell (Maya Rudolph) works over the "Star-Spangled Banner." Her stirring rendition brings us all together. And by us, we mean the 3 people who will ever see this display of unbridled enthusiasm and hot-blooded, unflinching cry of emotion. Thank you Francis Scott Key for making this happen. Thank you.
